ScandBook, a young company with old origins.

ScandBook’s history stretches back to 1911.

Wahlströms Bokförlag was founded in 1911 by book publisher Birger Wahlström and it was the book publisher that in 1918 expanded and started both printing and bookbinding.

ScandBooks’ next milestone came forty years later, in 1958. Wahlströms Bokförlag separated the production part, which was taken over by B. Wahlströms Bokindustri AB.

The business grew and gradually the premises became too cramped. The company’s premises were scattered in many places in Stockholm and the transport was very time-consuming. In 1967, the company was moved to Falun. The fact that it became Falun was due to the fact that, from a transport point of view, the city was at a suitable distance from Stockholm. It was also felt that the city had good service to offer the company and the employees.

In 1982 reorganization was done and B. Wahlströms Bokindustri AB became a subsidiary of J. A. Lindblads Bokförlag AB and changed its name to ScandBook AB. The intention was that ScandBook would go out on the market and take printing assignments also from others in Wahlströms Bokförlag.

In 1987, Wahlströms sold ScandBook to Aktietrykkeriet in Trondheim. In 1990, Aktietrykkeriet bought back the company and then continued to run it until 2002 when the Danish printing group Nérhaven took over the company.

In December 2002, ScandBook bought its colleague in Smedjebacken and since then books have been produced in factories both in Falun and in Smedjebacken.

In October 2006, the company changed owners again. The new and current owners are a venture capital company with site in Stockholm, Accent Equity partner, and some employees with senior positions in the company.

In autumn of 2009, ScandBook starts its new Pocket factory in Falun and expands the business with a new business area.

In 2015 Scandbook merged with Print IT in Klaipeda, Lithuania. Since then both factories in Falun and Klaipeda are running successfully with new history being written every day.
