Svartvitt tryck anv\u00e4nds fr\u00e4mst till sk\u00f6nlitteratur medan f\u00e4rgtryck oftare anv\u00e4nds till teknisk litteratur, l\u00e4romedel eller s\u00e5 kallade \u201dcoffee table books\u201d. I Sverige st\u00e5r svartvitt tryck f\u00f6r cirka 60 procent av alla h\u00e5rdband, n\u00e4rmare 100 procent av alla pocketb\u00f6cker samt cirka 50 procent av \u00f6vriga mjukband.<\/p>\n<p>Till skillnad fr\u00e5n f\u00e4rgsegmentet produceras de flesta svartvita b\u00f6ckerna initialt i mindre serier d\u00e5 f\u00f6rlagen vill begr\u00e4nsa kapitalbindningen. Det \u00e4r d\u00e4rf\u00f6r en konkurrensf\u00f6rdel att som ScandBook vara geografiskt v\u00e4l positionerat med korta leveranstider till merparten av den nordiska kundbasen.<\/p>\n<p>Generellt sker den svartvita produktionen n\u00e4rmare f\u00f6rlagen och konsumenterna j\u00e4mf\u00f6rt med f\u00e4rgproduktionen som har l\u00e4ngre ledtider och st\u00f6rre upplagor.
